Sasuke Sasuke is the last surviving member of the Uchiha Clan, along with his brother Itachi. Sasuke's goal in life is to revenge his parents death by killing his own sibling, and he will do anything to reach this target. This young leaf Genin is one of the most skillful shinobis in Naruto. He has a very big stamina and chakra capacity in his body, which allows him to perform many different Jutsus. His chakra control is also pretty good, although not as good as Sakura's.
Among his many diverse abilities, this fiery Uchiha has a sharingan which he uses as skillfully as his sensei, Kakashi also does. Sasuke prefers using more offensive techniques than defensive ones, so it results that his TaiJutsu and NinJutsu are far stronger than his GenJutsu; and as the old saying goes, the best defense is a good offense.
Early in the series, Sasuke seems like a very powerful ninja -which is totally true– but he doesn't posess any extraordinary abilities. Later however, his Sharingan surfaces, adding a lot to his strength; Orochimaru's seal, however, is what changes Sasuke as a whole person.
The seal Orochimaru gave Sasuke makes him use up his own chakra quickly, but once Sasuke has no more chakra, the curse supplies him with huge amounts. This gives Sasuke an edge in fights; however, he also loses control, turning into a fearless demon who kills almost anything in it's path. As a result, Kakashi seals the curse, but still gives Sasuke a choice; if he wants the power of it, he may use the Chakra from his seal, but if not, he can still fight normally in a battle.
Seals and curses aside, Sasuke is a very potent fighter without them. He has the incredible skill to learn high level NinJutsus such as Katon Goukaryuu, Katon Ryuuka, Katon Housenka, and other Taijutsus such as his own Shishi Rendan. Sasuke also has some skills with his Sharingan, such as Sofuushashen no Tachi, a technique unique to the Uchiha clan. However, Chidori would be his most powerful technique. He uses it only when in great danger, and he has to be pretty sure before using it, since it uses up a lot of Chakra. Chidori is described below.
Chidori: This technique is shown to Sasuke by Kakashi, during the training before the Chuunin exam. It is also known as Lightning edge, or the Thousand birds. The latter nickname was given due to the sound it creates. The excessive chakra gathered in the palm of the user creates a chirping sound so loud it creates the sense that one thousand birds are chirping. Lightning edge was given as a name to the technique because Kakashi had used it once to cut a tree. This technique is so strong, that when Kakashi plunged his hand inside the tree, it instantly fired up just like if lightning had struck it.
Now lets go into some more details. Chidori is a really powerful technique which requires a series of hand seals to be performed, along with great chakra concentration. The ninja then places his hands in a position crossing them, palms toward the opponent or upwards. The following stage is what takes the longest of the technique; chakra is gathered in enormous amounts in the hands.
So much chakra is gathered that it is clearly visible by the naked eye as blue electricity at the ninja’s hands. After gathering his strength, the shinobi starts running towards the opponent at a great speed; once near him/her, the lightning ball is plunged in the stomach or heart, or any other vital organ. This almost always causes death, but it is also really risky to use.
All that powering up creates an opening for an attack, so the ninja must first be sure that the opponent cannot attack, and also that the strike will land successfully and not miss the target. Besides that, a lot of Chakra is used up for this technique, so it will most likely be of the last attacks in a battle. Given those few disadvantages, it is obvious that the Chidori is a great attack.
Sasuke's skills don’t stop here. This Uchiha has also many great talents with weapons, along with his TaiJutsu, as told before. He uses many types of shuriken, both normal and Fuuma (large) for his attacks. His accuracy is almost perfect, and he even knows a couple of Jutsu's for his weapons, such as Kage Shuriken. Sasuke's Taijutsu is commendable, as it is almost as good as Rock Lee's. His speed is incredible, and his most famous combo is his Lion combo, which he invented on his own during the Chuunin 3rd exam prelims.
ShiShi Rendan (Lion Combo):: Sasuke's own TaiJutsu combo, which includes a series of punches and kicks to create a lot of pain to the opponent. First up, Sasuke uses Rock Lee's Konoha Repuu, to send the opponent towards the sky. He then jumps after the flying ninja, and places himself beneath him/her, Sasuke does Kage Buyou( Shadow Leaf dance). This leaves the opponent motionless, and creates an opening for an attack from Sasuke.
As a result, Sasuke first grabs the opponent's back, and then quickly releases it while kicking the opponent's rib with his left leg. The enemy will probably block that strike because it is a very obvious strike. Next, Sasuke will do a 360 degree flip in the air, creating the illusion that he will strike with his right leg. However, while he is rising from the flip, he raises his left hand and smacks the enemy in the face, sending him down.
Sasuke follows with another punch in the stomach, again with his left hand. Now his opponent is nearly touching the ground, so Sasuke delivers the final blow; a frontflip towards the enemy, striking his face with his left foot, and smashing him onto the ground.
Sakura Sakura is a very honorable ninja of the leaf, and although she doesn't always participate in battles at missions, she can prove to be very strong and brave. She doesn't have any techniques unique to her, but her Chakra control skills are among the best. She practices mostly genjutsu, but she also has some pretty decent skills with basic ninjutsu and taijutsu, as well as weapon fighting. Her most widely used skill is Kawarimi no Jutsu; she uses it to confuse the opponent and attack from behind with a sure hit such as a kunai strike or a NinJutsu.
Sakura also has some pretty good Genjutsu, such as Kai (cancel), which only Chuunin level ninjas are able to use. However, her most developed skill is chakra control; Sakura is probably the only Genin that can control Chakra so well so it is never lost or wasted. This gives her total control over her techniques, so she can learn almost any Jutsu if she is shown how it is done. Moreover, Sakura is a really bright ninja who knows everything about Chakra, techniques, and anything ninja-related. She can be a really important source of information during a battle, and would make a perfect teacher for young shinobis.
On the other hand, Sakura has little stamina or Chakra capacity. Compared to Naruto and Sasuke, she has almost no stamina. Also, her body is not that of an ideal ninja, as she doesn't generate a lot of Chakra. This results in her not participating in too many battles; however, when she does, she really proves her strengths.
Naruto Uzumaki Naruto is a name all fans of the anime series recognize. Besides his publicity, this young rookie Genin of the Hidden leaf village also has many ways of fighting. He is basically an overall good shinobi, but he mostly uses ninJutsu and taiJutsu. Many people mock him because he looks weak, but Naruto's true power is his potential and willpower. He is so dedicated to becoming a Hokage; he will overcome anything on his way in any possible manner. He never gives up, and although he cannot yet surface his true powers, he trains hard. Now, one reason that Naruto cannot fight as well as other ninja is because he doesn't know himself. His biggest problem is controlling his chakra, which is what we explain in the following lines.
Naruto's Chakra Naruto has one of the most complicated Keirakukei seen in the whole series. That is, because he has two Chakras. As Jiraiya explains one is his normal chakra, which is because of his life stream. The other one is the Demon Fox's Chakra, which is hidden deep inside him. The seal the 4th gave him controls that chakra from taking over. However, Orochimaru's Guguou fuuin (five part seal) overcame that seal that the 4th Hokage had given him, and completely messed up Naruto's chakra control, which is the cause of the instability he was experiencing for some time. Fortunately, Jiraiya was able to overcome this seal with his Guguou Kaiin, giving Naruto complete control over his own and Nine tails' chakra. Thus, he can now utilize his full potential, if he learns how to.
Now that we know how Naruto controls his Chakra, we can take a look at his basic skills. Basically, Naruto was an "unskilled ninja" who didn't know how to even create Bunshins, a very basic skill. However, after practicing Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, cloning becomes second nature to him. Kage Bunshin is the most widely used skill by Naruto, and throughout time, he has been able to create a whole lot of replicas and keep them up for a long time, or even have them use other Jutsu's such as Henge no Jutsu.
As told earlier, Naruto uses almost no GenJutsu, and his taiJutsu is pretty simple; however, when Kyubi takes over, he becomes a taiJutsu expert, moving at extremely fast speeds and hitting so hard that a boulder can be smashed into pieces. The only real TaiJutsu technique he has is the Uzumaki Naruto Rendan, which is pretty much like Sasuke's Lion Rendan. As for his NinJutsus, Naruto knows Bunshin, Henge, and Kage Bunshin no Jutsu at first. Later in the series he learns some other ninJutsus from his new Sensei, Jiraiya, which include Summoning no Jutsu and Rasegan.
Naruto’s most exciting characteristic is the fact that in every fight he does something new. Every time he has a different trump card under his sleeve, such as Uzumaki Naruto rendan and summoning no Jutsu. In the following lines we discuss what is probably his most powerful attack, which is used only under "special" circumstances.
Ninpou Kuchiyosek (summoning): Naruto learns this skill from his new Sensei, Jiraiya. It is his trump card, and he only uses it while in a great need in a battle. This technique needs a lot of Chakra, and Naruto mostly uses his Kyubi Chakra to summon, which means that he mostly summons while in danger. By signing a contract with the toads and using his blood with a scroll, Naruto's hand seals summon the giant toad Gama Bunta as well as his son. Only Naruto and Jiraiya can summon this fire-spirited toad, because he is the toughest toad to summon and control. There is not much that can be told on Gama Bunta, because it really depends on the situation. However, let's just say that he fights as hard as any other shinobi, which proves to be a great aid when at a disadvantage.
Another trait of Naruto is his bluffing ability. He is the only person in the series who talks more than fights during a battle. However, this is good, because only his courage scares enemies, even if they know that Naruto is in disadvantage. This also gives him chances to reveal his trump card
Momochi Zabuza Momochi Zabuza has a really unique fighting style, which is pretty much based on water and mist techniques. He is a very strong Jounin and a formidable opponent for even the elite Kakashi. Zabuza's overall skills are great, although he prefers using ninjutsu more than anything else. This missing-nin is very well known for his silent killing attacks; which obviously links with his signature move, Kirigakure no Jutsu, or hidden mist no jutsu. All of his attacks are quiet, swift, and deadly. He uses the mist created by his ninjutsu at advantage and tricks even the Sharingan. Among his vast array of skills, Zabu is able to perform Suirou no Jutsu(water prison), water clones, and a couple of really powerful ninjutsus that include Water explosion and Water dragon.
However, this fiery ninja's skills don’t stop here. Zabuza is a very intellectual character; for instance, when he encountered Kakashi, he had Haku observe the whole fight, and then come in and save him at the last minute. As a result, he was able to understand all of the enemy’s techniques and get prepared for their next battle. Zabuza also has a lot of physical strength, since he can move at great speeds and hit with equally great power. Below we explain his signature move, as well as his most powerful NinJutsu.
Ninpou- Kirigakure no Jutsu: This is the first ninjutsu Zabuza will perform in a fight. It is the technique that simply gives him a greater advantage against his opponent. This ninjutsu gathers Zabuza’s chakra into his hands, and he then casts it to create a very thick mist which covers a large area around him. It is very hard to see even at about 10 feet of distance; now you may ask, how does that help Zabuza if he can't see either. Well he actually CAN see, because he controls the mist, so he can thicken it or make it less dense when he needs to see. This Jutsu gives him the chance to create a silent attack from behind the opponent, killing him instantly; this is why Zabuza is known as the silent killer.
Suiton Dabakufu no Jutsu: This is Zabuza's most powerful ninjutsu; he uses it when he is really desperate, since it takes up a lot of Chakra. Kakashi is easily able to copy it using his Sharingan, but it is a very hard NinJutsu to learn because of the amount of concentration it requires.Besides those two factors, this technique also requires a large volume of water nearby, so the water cyclone can be created. Zabuza gathers Chakra in his hands and after performing all of the required hand seals, he unleashes his energy in a form of a cyclone on its side. The tip of the cyclone is the strongest part, but the rest of the body is also extremely powerful, raising debris from the ground, and tearing trees off their roots.
As any normal person, Zabuza isn't full of advantages, nor is he perfect. He tends to be really arrogant and self-assured, which almost every time leads him to trouble. His temper is also very uncontrollable, and, although he is normally calm, when he is desperate he looses his ability to think and just attacks and slashes away. Another trait of Zabuza's is his courage. He never backs up, even when he knows that he will die or be seriously injured. This also gives him an advantage, because some opponents get scared by persistency of their opponent.
Zabuza's weapon: Although most ninjas prefer using shurikens, kunais, or generally small weapons for combat, Zabuza's main weapon is a huge sword. Only from its size, that sword appears to weigh around 100 pounds, the sword alone. Zabuza can handle it pretty well, but his speed is pretty slow with it. A swing from that gigantic sword is pretty hard to perform, and also really easy for the enemy to dodge. As a result, Zabuza first makes sure that the enemy is immobilized; he then goes on and attacks with his blade. This ninja also uses a variety of Shuriken's and Kunai's, but his main weapon still remains the sword that is being carried by his back.
Hatake Kakashi Kakashi is probably one of the strongest ninjas out there, and is considered to be a genious among Konoha Jounins. Trained under the 4th Hokage, he has a great talent for a shinobi, because besides his greatly balanced skills, he also receives help from the Sharingan- something that aids him greatly in battles. Kakashi has the amazing ability to think fast and effectively, without endagering his teammates, but without sacrificing his life is either. Either way, Kakashi's main goal in a mission isn't to make it out safely; it is to make sure that his teammates are not hurt, and that the mission is successfully completed. He will give up his life for anything that threatens the peace.
Kakashi is an overall great ninja, and he can use NinJutsu just as well as he can use TaiJutsu and GenJutsu. His knowledge with the Sharingan is very good, but although he isn't as powerful as Uchiha Itachi with it, he can still get his way around with the enemy. The Sharingan also aids him by giving him the ability to copy techniques off enemies, which is the reason behind Kakashi's wide range of techniques. This talented Jounin has copied so many Jutsu's throughout his experiences in life, he has been known as Copy Kakashi.
Among his many techniques, there is Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, Doton Shinjuu Zanshu no Jutsu, Mizu Bunshin, Ninpou Kutchiyose, and Suiton Daibakufu no Jutsu. Finally, Kakashi's knowledge with weapons is great; although not as great with them as other shinobis, Kakashi manages to use kunai's and shuriken's to his advantage even in a heated battle, without missing his aim.
Although not very widely used, Kakashi is a talented ninja even with GenJutsu. Using his Sharingan, he can trick the opponent into using a technique he has in mind, then use the exact same technique to counter-attack, givin him an advantage in battle. Kakashi is also a good martial artist, and he is in great physical shape. He always manages to use his quick reflexes and strong blows to his advantage, and he doesn't get exhausted that easy. All in all, he is as powerful as he is mentally as he is physically.
This shinobi's most notable skill is his one unique NinJutsu; Chidori. Also known as Raikiri, the Chidori is one of the most powerful NinJutsu's out there, and can prove to be lethal to any person. The technique starts out with the shinobi performing a few hand seals, then placing his hands on a peculiar position, palms facing forward. Chakra is then gathered in a sphere-like shape on the palms; however, this is the lengthier phase of the attack because all the Chakra amount gathered is huge. So huge, which appears as blue lightning around the user's hands. Its other name, Raikiri (which translates into lightning edge) was given to it because
After gathering all the required Chakra, Kakashi will release his hands towards the opponent, and charge with the Chidori on one hand, then plunge into one of the enemy's vital organs. Because of the vast amounts of Chakra it uses up, the Chidori can be used only a few times in a battle, before the ninja's chakra is drained completely. To be exact, Kakashi can use this technique about 4 times in all, after which he must rest for long hours. However, most likely Kakashi will make sure the attack will land on the opponent, and he will not be charging around with the Chidori on his hand.
Gaara's fighting style Gaara has one of the most peculiar and unique, yet powerful, fighting styles amongst the many characters of Naruto. It all revolves around his mysterious gourd, which posses magical powers. Using a great amount of NinJutsus, few GenJutsus, and almost no TaiJutsus at all, Gaara is a shinobi that could probably beat all Gennin's and even most Chuunin's of Konoha. Fortunately for Gaara, his gourd does almost all the work for him, aiding him drastically both in offense and defense. Being originated in the hidden sand village, most of Gaara's techniques are a combination of Chakra and sand, aiming to suffocating the opponent using large force. As for his defense, the sand in Gaara's gourd moves at lightspeed and blocks almost all incoming attacks, creating an extremely strong barrier. Obviously , his power lies inside that mysterious sand gourd... in the lines to follow, we explain the attributes of this "weapon" of Gaara's.
Sand Gourd This is the ultimate source of Gaara's strength and techniques. It is said that, when Gaara was born, he was cursed with Shukaku, the sand demon. In order to stop that curse from taking complete control of his body, a special sealing Jutsu was made on Gaara, sealing his mother inside the gourd, along with Shukaku, and thus giving Gaara both their powers. This is also the reasons why at some points Gaara calls the gourd "mother". The gourd is also one of the causes to Gaara's huge hate and love to death, beacause his mother's death caused so much pain to his childhood, it left him with a lifelong trauma. However, now that he has learnt to manipulate the powers of the gourd, he is an extremely strong shinobi. The gourd's sand is the source of all of Gaara's techniques, but there is one catch; Gaara must use his chakra to hold the sand, as well as for manipulation. Among his many techniques, Gaara can create bunshins (clones) from sand, shurikens, and even command it so it wraps up around the enemy, and then suffocates him/her to death. However, the most powerful and fascinating aspect of the gourd and its sand, is the trigger of Gaara's defenses. There are basically two types of defensive techniques Gaara uses; the Sand Armor, and the Sand Shield. We describe each of them in the lines to follow.
Shield of Sand (Suna no Tate) Using the sand in the gourd, Gaara's first and mostly used defense system consists of a thick mass of sand moving swiftly to the point that is being attacked. What is extremely mysterious about this defense is that Gaara doesn't control it; it functions automatically, protecting Gaara with extreme precision. This first layer of armory is really hard to penetrate, mainly because the sand moves at the blink of an eye, covering Gaara from 360 degrees. As a result, any weapons thrown at Gaara, along with long range NinJutsus , and most TaiJutsu , are all proven useless against his almost flawless defense. Frankly, the only real opening in the gourd's sand shield is by overcoming the sand's speed, leaving it unable to block the attack in time. A really fast TaiJutsu attack, or a NinJutsu with large amounts of Chakra (such as Chidori) would definitely be the Sand Shield's worst enemy. A high level GenJutsu would also most definitely work, since the sand can't block many spiritual attacks.
Armor of Sand (Suna no Yoroi) This is Gaara's most seldomly used and last line of defenses; the sand armor. It is used rarely mainly because the shield of sand is penetrated only in few instances. The armor of sand is there only as a last second defense, but it has its reasons. First, it is not nearly as strong as the shield of sand is, making it considerably easier to be penetrated. Because it only includes a thin layer of sand kept closely packed together by chakra, the armor of sand also consumes big amounts of chakra, meaning that Gaara can't hold it off for a very long time. If he does, he may waste a large amount of his chakra. However, as told before, this technique is seldomly used, and even if it is used, it will most likely completely demolish the attack, causing absolutely no damage to Gaara. As a result, until his battle with Rock Lee, Gaara had never been injured before.
This wraps up the defense, but what about Gaara's offensive techniques? For his part, this Sand Shinobi uses mostly Sand NinJutsu, and he has many tricks up his sleeve. Even though his NinJutsu skills are extremely strong, Gaara merely even uses TaiJutsu. In fact, in most battles Gaara doesn't even bother to move; the sand does all the movement for him. Finally, in terms of GenJutsu, Gaara hasn't showed any specific skill in that area, since he has never used a GenJutsu in a battle. Now, to his NinJutsus; Gaara mostly uses two combining sand techniques, Sabaku Sousou, and Sabaku Kyuu. We explain both of them in detail in the lines to follow.
Sabaku Kyuu (Desert Coffin) One of Gaara's most commonly used skills, Sabaku Kyuu does just what it stands for; it creates a mass of sand which engulfs the opponent or a part of him, such as a leg or arm. The main purpose of this technique is to immobilize the enemy, possibly creating an opening for another attack. However, since Gaara prefers playing with his enemies rather than taking it seriously, he will most likely use his chakra to contract the sand quickly together, leaving his enemy to suffocate. This technique doesn't use a whole lot of Chakra, and interestingly, it only uses one hand seal, and that is to gather the Chakra in the sand. This attack can definitely prove deadly, and if anyone is caught into it, the results will most likely be very serious injuries or death.
Sabaku Sousou (Desert Graveyard) This technique is Gaara's alternative to the Desert Coffin. Using Chakra to manipulate sand once again, Gaara creates a big mass of sand that covers the entire enemy's body. This technique can be used on top of Sabaku Kyuu, since the enemy will be unable to move. Once on the enemy, Gaara will use his chakra to have the sand compact closely together, smashing the enemy's body into pieces. Some times, Gaara will also use his energy to levitate the opponent into the air, and then smash him up, creating a big rain of blood. This technique is believed to use more Chakra than Sabaku Kyuu, since more Chakra is needed to contract the sand together and smash the opponent. Both in this attack and Sabaku Kyuu , the sand moves at extremely fast speeds, so it is really hard to dodge, unless fighting against a TaiJutsu user. However, either way, Gaara's offense is just as good as his defense.
As you all can see, Gaara has many diverse techniques up his sleeve. Although he doesn't use any weapons at all, he does use Suna Shuriken No Jutsu, which creates metal-sharp shurikens just from sand. He also has his own variation of Bunshin No Jutsu, Suna Bunshin, which functions in the exact same way as the classic technique, but with sand instead of normal Chakra clones. Where is all that Chakra coming from though? The answer lies hidden in a demon similar to Kyuubi, hidden deep inside Gaara. When Gaara is desperate for victory, that sand demon, Shukaku, comes out, taking over Gaara's body and killing uncontrollably. Its power may be greater than Kyuubi's and it was sealed inside of Gaara when he was born, as mentioned above. Shukaku's powers are enormous; however, theres a catch for him to be released. Gaara, or the medium, needs to be sleeping. This means that Shukaku can either be brought to life by himself, fighting against Gaara, or by Gaara's will. Gaara can use the Spell of Fake Sleep, putting himself to sleep, and releasing Shukaku.
Shukaku has many techniques of his own, such as Renkyuudan, which creates huge balls made of Chakra. Normally, Shukaku appears as a huge racoon, and is about the size of GamaBunta the Frog. Once he is out, Shukaku is pretty much independent, although he always has Gaara attached to part of him, sleeping waist-high in sand. Besides just being totally released, Gaara can partially release Shukaku, growing parts of his body. For example, Gaara can choose to get Shukaku's huge arms, and use them to punch with a lot of force. What he most usually uses though, is Shukaku's Chakra, the source of Gaara's powers. Combining the magical powers of his gourd, the demon inside him, and the destiny of a great shinobi, Gaara is definitely one of the most powerful ninjas in Naruto
Haku Haku has a pretty unique fighting style, considering he combines the genius of advanced bloodline, and the hard training under the ruthless Zabuza. Just as his mentor, Haku is a ninja of the village of Hidden Mist. As a result, most of his attacks are water based. In general, Haku uses speed in combination with powerful ninjutsu, which gives him a top advantage in battle. His ninjutsu skills are very good, while genjutsu loses some, due to the lack of use. Haku is a very physically active boy, and using his speed and strength, he has formidable taijutsu. Among his many skills, Haku can also do 1-handed seals, something virtually impossible. Now, lets go into detail on his top 2 Ninjutsu.
Flying water needles (HiJutsu Sensatsu Suishou no Jutsu): This is a secret ninjutsu, and it is very very powerful. It is usually combined with Haku's demonic mirrors for an even better damage. This ninjutsu is secret, and it needs water to work. Haku lifts the water with his chakra, and then gives it a shape of needles. These needles are as good as real, and thousands can be created at once, then thrown at the opponent. However, the other ninja can protect his vital organs, and since the needles do almost no damage, it can take some time to defeat an opponent.
Demonic Ice Mirrors (HiJutsu Makyou HyouShou): This is Haku's trump card, and it is also a ninjutsu that 90% of the time will kill the other ninja(s). This secret Jutsu is also 100% original, and only Haku can do it, due to the speed requirement. As with the water needles, this ninjutsu also requires water nearby. Haku lifts the water with chakra, and surrounds an area with ice mirrors. He then uses these mirrors as a mean of transport; however, the speeds in which he moves are so incredible, it's hard for even the Sharingan to see. After confusing the opponent, Haku launches a series of needles, or uses the flying water needles trick. This technique is inescapable because theres no exit, and the user can't see which Haku is the real one (the mirrors create illusions).
Haku doesn't use standard weapons. He uses needles, because he believes they are easier to handle and use. Their lightness are just great matching for Haku's speed, and he does know how to use them. He can throw many needles at once, and aim all of them to vital organs.
